Microblading, honestly: your design, your healing, your touch-up

Microblading is not one appointment and a finished face. It is a design you approve, a healing process that looks worse before it looks right, and a touch-up that settles the result. Here is exactly how it runs at HEADS in Makati — including the parts most studios leave out.

Your brow design comes first

Before a single stroke is placed, we design your brows for your face. Our specialist uses professional brow-mapping technique and precision tools, including a BB Compass, to read your facial proportions, your natural growth pattern, your bone structure, the position of your eyes — and the asymmetries you already have. Golden Ratio principles guide the proportions, but they never overrule your own features.

No face is symmetrical. Two mechanically identical eyebrows are not the goal and would not look natural on you. Balanced and harmonious is the goal.

You approve the shape before we begin

Once the mapping is done, we show you the proposed shape and outline. Take your time with it, look from different angles, and say if anything should change. Microblading starts only after you have approved the design.

This step matters more than any other: once the strokes are placed, the overall shape cannot be significantly changed. It is the last easy moment to say "a little thinner", "a little higher", "not quite".

Your brows will look different while healing

The brows you leave with are not your result. Straight after treatment they usually look darker, stronger and sharper than they will when healed, and mild redness, tenderness or swelling is normal.

Over the following days they can change a great deal — darkening, flaking, looking patchy or uneven, then appearing lighter before the pigment gradually re-emerges and settles. This is the skin doing its job, not the work failing.

Please don't judge colour, thickness or symmetry during the healing weeks. The healed result can only be assessed once the skin has finished healing.

The touch-up, 6–8 weeks later

Microblading is a process, not a single appointment. Your touch-up is normally scheduled around six to eight weeks afterwards, once we can see how your skin healed and how much pigment it kept. At that appointment we can reinforce faded strokes, refine small differences in shape or symmetry, adjust density and make minor refinements based on the healed result.

The touch-up refines the design you approved. It is not a redesign — and any studio that treats it as one was guessing the first time.

Aftercare decides as much as technique

What happens in the studio is the beginning. How you care for the brows afterwards significantly affects healing and how much pigment stays. You will get specific instructions, and following them carefully is genuinely the difference between an even result and a patchy one.

During healing, avoid picking, scratching, rubbing or pulling off flakes and scabs; over-wetting or improper cleansing; makeup on the treated area unless we say otherwise; heavy exercise, sweating, swimming and sauna; sun exposure and tanning; and active skincare products around the brows.

Removing flakes early takes pigment with them. That is the most common cause of uneven retention we see.

What we can and cannot promise

We can promise a design made for your face, an approval step before we start, and a touch-up that refines the healed result. We cannot promise how your skin will hold pigment — that depends on skin type, oil production, sun, skincare, lifestyle and healing, and it differs from person to person. Anyone guaranteeing retention is selling you something.

Common questions

Will my eyebrows be perfectly symmetrical?

No face is perfectly symmetrical, so two mechanically identical brows are not the goal. We map your brows to your own proportions, growth pattern and eye position, and aim for a balanced, harmonious result that reads as natural on your face.

Do I see the shape before the microblading starts?

Yes. After brow mapping we show you the proposed shape and outline, and you review it from several angles. Microblading only begins once you have approved it, because the overall shape cannot be significantly changed after the strokes are placed.

Why do my brows look so dark right after the appointment?

Fresh brows are not healed brows. Immediately after treatment they normally look darker, sharper and more defined than the healed result, and mild redness, tenderness or swelling can occur. This settles as the skin heals.

What happens during the healing weeks?

The brows can change a lot. They may darken, begin to flake, look patchy or uneven, then appear lighter before the pigment gradually re-emerges and settles. Please do not judge colour, thickness or symmetry during this period.

When is the touch-up and what does it do?

Usually 6–8 weeks after the first appointment, once we can see how your skin healed and held pigment. We reinforce faded strokes, refine minor differences in shape or symmetry and adjust density. It refines the approved design — it is not a redesign.

Can you guarantee how well the pigment will hold?

No, and anyone who promises that is overselling. Retention depends on skin type, natural oil production, sun exposure, skincare products, lifestyle and how carefully you follow aftercare. Good technique and good aftercare together give the best chance.

What must I avoid while healing?

Picking, scratching or rubbing the area and removing flakes early; over-wetting or improper cleansing; makeup on the treated area unless we say otherwise; heavy sweating, swimming and sauna; sun exposure and tanning; and active skincare products near the brows.

Thinking about it? Brow mapping is part of your consultation — you see the shape before anything is permanent. Microblading at HEADS starts from ₱35,000.
